Bitumen Blankets & Mattresses

In addition to our concrete ranges, we design and manufacture bitumen based products. These are intended for use as blankets and mattresses in situations that require a cushioned interface with the pipeline or cable.

They are made by pouring flexible bitumastic into a specially prepared and treated canvas envelope, complete with geo-grid reinforcement, to form a flat blanket or mattress. The canvas envelope can be manufactured in a variety of plan sizes and thicknesses to suit the application.

The density of the bitumen is normally around 2.2 T/m3. The units are lifted using integral canvas strops in conjunction with a lifting frame.

Bitumen mattresses and blankets are most commonly used for pipeline supports and protection where the risk of damage to pipelines and cables, such as occurs from spalling concrete and sharp edges, is to be avoided.
